The Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Code of Practice requires that employees are either sufficiently experienced to do their work safely or are supervised by an experienced person. In addition, employees must be adequately trained in the safe use of equipment in the place of work including protective clothing and equipment.
Additional training is available through the optional electives that include truck mounted, trailer mounted and vertical lift. These unit standards are offered as onsite training only.
Full and renewal course options can be selected based upon your specific requirements, Axiom Training recommends that a refresher is completed every three years.
Prior experience in using a MEWP. Proof may be required.
NZQA Unit Standard 23966 is the pre-requisite requirement to all of the practical mobile elevating work platform options. This is completed with the standard course delivery.
Why should I complete Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training?
Elevated work platform training (EWP) or as referred to mobile elevating work platforms (MEWP) is required to be completed in accordance with the WorkSafe Good Practice Guidelines. Axiom provides training to meet these standards, training in the safe use of equipment in the workplace; including protective clothing and equipment.
People who successfully complete any one of the unit standards specified in the EWP training course will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of types of EWP, their suitability for purpose and safety features including scissor lift, truck mounted, self-propelled boom lift, trailer mounted, vertical lift.
- Operate an Elevated Work Platform following the manufacturer’s recommendations and within the machine’s intended specifications, in accordance with industry requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements in relation to Codes of practice and the use of EWP.

What locations can I complete MEWP Courses?
Axiom Training offers a number of scheduled short courses available at our branches, or if you have equipment on-site that your teams use all of the time, we can deliver the training at your site. This is a very popular option.
Important note: Axiom Training will only train your team on certified machinery that is fit for purpose on the day of training. Evidence of equipment certification will be required prior to training.

Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) Full Course
The Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Code of Practice requires that employees must be adequately trained in the safe use of equipment in the place of work.
Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) Refresher
This programme is for operators already certified as a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Operator. A refresher certificate for the following three years will be issued on course completion.
