Overview

To comply with the NZTA Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (COP/TTM) and Local Roads Supplement, anyone carrying out temporary traffic management duties on worksites must be appropriately trained and qualified.

This course promotes safe working practices, standards and operating procedures at roadwork sites and covers the standards and operating procedures required by the COP/TTM.

This course is also the pre-requisite for people wanting to compete the Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) course.

Each successful participant will be issued with a NZTA Certificate valid for three years.

Refresher courses are available. Axiom Training recommends that a refresher is completed every three years.

Prerequisites

Refresher course attendees must:

  • Be registered on the NZTA database
  • Hold a current Level 1 TC qualification, obtained in the past three years

How long is the Traffic Controller/Site Traffic Management Supervisor qualification valid for?

TC/ STMS qualification is valid for 3 years. Both TC and STMS qualifications needs to be refreshed within one year of the expiry date, otherwise you may have to re-sit the full course.

How long do I have to have my Traffic Controller before I go on the STMS course?

You must have held the TC qualification for at least one month prior to achieving the STMS qualification.

Can I take the STMS refresher?

If your STMS has not expired or has not expired more than one year ago, you are able to take the STMS Refresher. If you have not previously held your STMS or have had this expire more than one year ago, you will need to take the full STMS course.

My STMS qualification has expired over 1 year ago. Do I need to take the TC course again?

STMS qualifications that expired over one year ago do not need to re-sit the TC, but will need to complete the full 2-day STMS course.
