Graduates of this programme will understand the operation of a port environment including relationships with other port users, understand and apply the principles of workplace health and safety within a working port environment, and apply a range of port-specific communication methods.
Depending on the strand selected, graduates will understand the characteristics of cargo types, safely stow and secure cargo, give and receive signals, safely handle dangerous goods, apply safe methods for lifting and storing cargo (cargo handling strand), or competently operate heavy port machinery i.e. port-related machinery that exceeds 10 tonne working load capacity.This qualification is only offered as a work-based programme given the practical requirements of the course.
